19-year-old Chloe Davison hanged herself in her bedroom after her photos did not receive enough likes on social media. Davison’s sister, Jade, said she was an aspiring model who was obsessed with having an online presence and used the various platforms to feel good about herself.

“If she put a picture on Facebook, she would ask the whole family to like her picture. She was too concerned about what other people thought about her. She thought she wasn’t good enough unless she was getting loads of likes and comments. If she didn’t get enough likes, she didn’t feel accepted,”

Family friend Nick Coombs said Davidson would often delete her photos if it didn’t receive enough likes and had problems making friends at school while dealing with cyberbullying.

“She’d get hundreds of messages each day, mostly men asking her for sexual stuff. Sometimes they were nice, but other times they told Chloe they wanted to hurt her.”

“Social media took over Chloe’s life, whether that be Snapchat or Facebook. Chloe was beautiful, but she didn’t see that. She cared too much about how other people saw her.”
