Following the much success gained from the series Power. The upcoming show is based on the graphic novel Trill League created by Anthony Piper. The show will follow the adventures of a squad of Black superheroes.
50 Centβs career has gone from rapper to multimedia mogul as he announces another venture into the world of television. Diving into the world of animated TV shows, 50 is preparing for the release of a new black superhero show.
In an interview with Variety, 50 Cent said βI am excited to bring G-Unit Film & Television to an innovative platform like Quibi with my partners at Lionsgate and 3 Artsβ¦ Anthony Piper and Jameel Saleem have created a world we havenβt seen before in Trill League.β
Combining aspects of both anime and hip hop culture. The line-up of characters includes the leader, Blackmayne, his 11-year-old sidekick Sparrow, the only female hero of the group Wondeisha. A crime-fighting pimp named Soul and the burly hero Swolemayne.
The new animated show is co-written by Piper and Saleem and executively produced by 50 Cent and Jermaine Johnson of 3 Arts Entertainment.
Premiering on April 6th, 2020, the show will launch exclusively on the streaming service Quibi.
All antics aside, 50 Cent has turned himself into quite the television producer. With the huge success that Power has become and a prison drama show titled For Life, 50 seems to be looking to reach into all genres of television. Itβs nice to see not only the success heβs had but also more representation of black people as superheroes, though weβll have to hold on passing judgment until the showβs premiere.
