Land O’Lakes Drops Its ‘Racist’ Native American Packaging After Nearly 100 Years

Land O’Lakes is rebranding its image of the American Indian woman illustration that adorned its packaging since 1928.

The image of a non-specific American Indian with a feather in her hair kneeling will be replaced by … lands and lakes, with the phrase “Farmer-Owned” above the brandmark and “Since 1921” below.

“As Land O’Lakes looks toward our 100th anniversary, we’ve recognized we need packaging that reflects the foundation and heart of our company culture – and nothing does that better than our farmer-owners whose milk is used to produce Land O’Lakes’ dairy products,” said Beth Ford, president and CEO of Land O’Lakes, in a statement.
