Coco Gauff aims to become the next trailblazing Black American woman in U.S. tennis.
She is set to challenge Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 2 seed and future world No. 1, in the highly anticipated women’s final at the U.S. Open this afternoon.
If Gauff manages to secure the unexpected victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, she will forever cement her name among the greats like Serena Williams, Venus Williams, and Althea Gibson.
Gibson dominated the U.S. National Championship in 1957 and 1958, laying the foundation for the U.S. Open. Venus claimed the U.S. Open crown in 2001 and 2002, while Serena boasts an impressive record with championships in 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014. These six victories at the U.S. Open put Serena on par with Chris Evert, who achieved the same feat during the tournament’s modern era from 1975 to 1978, as well as in 1980 and 1982.

However, millions of Spectrum TV subscribers might not be able to watch it due to an ongoing dispute between ESPN and Charter/Spectrum.
Even though Charter/Spectrum is one of the largest cable providers in the country, serving major markets like New York and Los Angeles, ESPN and other Disney properties were pulled from their lineup last week.
