Tia Carey was just 21-years-old and was shot twice, once in the head, outside of gas station. She was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
21-year-old Tierra Posey, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Carey had just picked up her 5-year-old daughter from school and had her 2-month old daughter in the car when she told her driver to pull over at the gas station.
Carey seen the father of one of her children at the pump and approached him. Posey, his current girlfriend, was in the passenger seat of his car and the two started to argue.
Carey forced herself into that car and spit on Posey and hit her. Posey got out the car and they started to fight while the baby daddy tried to separate them.
He pulled Carey back, and Posey grabbed her handgun from the car and fired shots.
Carey’s mother, Demaris Carey, is mourning the loss of her daughter and now raising her two grandchildren.
“She was only 21. So young. She didn’t even get to see her baby grow up,” Demaris told NBC News 4.
Demaris says the shooting was senseless violence.
“Senseless violence. I mean, you know, we encountered things every day… situations, but this was just an act of senseless violence.”
